Supa Ape - Pressure Cooker

This was a Music Video project that I created over the span of an entire year in 2018 whilst working in office jobs. It’s a personal project that I started in response to hearing the WIP track at the time and feeling very inspired. Supa Ape is a close friend so there wasn’t any real pressure or deadlines for this project, I had free reign to be as experimental as I liked and explore all sorts of avenues for the visuals, which I took full advantage of and found the process to be very rewarding as I learned a lot along the way.

Video editing and stop motion are the key components of this video. The Video Editing is clear to see with hundreds of small cuts made throughout to a plethora of footage from myriad sources including old 8mm family holiday films, archive, stock, phone and DSLR to name a few. The Stop Motion case in the form of two methods. Firstly, I used different coloured duct tapes to create geometric compositions that evolved frame by frame in sync with small sections of the music that I often played on a loop to drill them into my head and visualise. After that I moved onto using a large blackboard and paint pens to draw fluid, abstract shapes, forms and environments, progressing and revising them frame by frame incrementally over the course of several months.

After gaining a BA Hons degree in Filmmaking in 2014, I spent a few years working in jobs that I didn’t find satisfying or fulfilling. This project was the springboard for me for me to get out of those jobs and set up my own freelance business. Essentially, this is where Morphic Motion was born.
